MDGuidelines provides various kinds of return-to-work and treatment information. Its core product is the return-to-work guidelines from The Medical Disability Advisor (MDA). This authoritative reference on disability duration of over 6700 medical conditions presents key information for the proper case management. These guidelines apply to both injured and ill uniformed personnel on limited duty as well as to civilian workers applying for or receiving workers compensation/disability benefits. The MDGuidelines information will help those involved in managing disabilities (treating specialists, supervisors, and human resources personnel) to coordinate effectively among the various parties. The outcome of returning to work on either light or full duty is the chief goal.

MDGuidelines, which lists expected duration of disability based on work type (very heavy, heavy, medium, light, sedentary), encourages light duty as an important aid to recovery. Workers or uniformed personnel who stay home for prolonged durations are predisposed to having delayed recovery which ultimately may prevent them from returning to work at all. This concept of the advantage of early return to work originally stems from military research into the treatment of “battle fatigue,” whereby a service member was more likely to return to combat if they were treated with the expectation of returning to their unit. Epidemiologically, people who work live longer, based on both financial, physical, mental health factors, with the concept enshrined as the “healthy worker effect.”
