| Symptoms resulting from prostatic hyperplasia can almost always be reduced. Alpha-blocking drugs effectively improve urine flow rates in many individuals. Those men taking anti-androgen medication also show general improvement in urinary flow rates. Surgical treatment of prostatic hyperplasia effectively reduces voiding problems, but carries a significant risk of complications. Mortality rates with TURP surgery are estimated at 0.23% (Leveillee). |
