Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MDGuidelines Health Advisor?

The MDGuidelines Health Advisor provides medical information for more than 1,200 conditions and procedures. The evidence-based content has been researched by medical writers and reviewed by practicing physicians. Health Advisor topics focus on illnesses, injuries, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, and therapeutic interventions, and are interwoven with clinical practice guidelines from the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) to provide resources that enhance the quality and consistency of patient care and improve patient outcomes. The topics include information on the diagnosis, treatment, complications, prognosis, and recovery of working-age individuals.

How do Board members participate?

The MDGuidelines Medical Advisory Board provides essential support in ensuring that Health Advisor topics are both current and clinically representative by evaluating and offering feedback on the medical content, physiological duration tables, and rehabilitation guidelines associated with the Health Advisor condition and procedure topics. Board members are invited to give feedback on medical content, duration tables, and other review projects based on member specialty throughout the year, which may involve approximately 2 to 5 hours of time annually.

What are physiological duration tables?

The Health Advisor duration tables provide approximate recovery timelines for injured or ill individuals based on physiological healing time. Physiological healing is the amount of time needed to biologically recover from a specific illness, injury, medical procedure, or surgery, and is independent of comorbid physical and mental health conditions and socioeconomic factors. The duration table estimates help clinicians, case managers, and patients set expectations for recovery and understand the specifics of each individual’s case.

Are Medical Advisory Board members limited to physicians?

No. The MDGuidelines Medical Advisory Board welcomes a wide range of health care professionals across multiple specialties, and includes physicians, nurses, psychiatrists, allied health professionals, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, dentists, psychologists, and more.

If I live outside the United States, can I still join the Board?

Yes. The MDGuidelines Medical Advisory Board is open to health care professionals throughout the world.

Do I receive compensation to be on the Medical Advisory Board?

Active participation on the Medical Advisory Board involves volunteering to take part in at least two duration review projects and responding to queries according to member specialty over an 18-month period. Active Medical Advisory Board members are provided with acknowledgement of their participation with a one-year single-user license of the MDGuidelines service, with our gratitude.
